One of the ways that have the most impact in raising our awareness of global issues in our time is the documentary movie.
Some of these movies are briefly outlined here...
We have watched many of these in different meetings and contexts and are also cooperating with a Swiss organisation – "Filme für die Erde," www.filmefuerdieerde.ch (films for the earth) – to bring these to a greater public.

On the left is the invitation to the viewing on 5 February. Click the image to enlare.
We have already held 2 evenings together with them in Basel at the Unternehmen Mitte, where an audience viewed and then received 1 – 3 DVD’s each.
The Films in question at these 2 presentations were:

This deals with the issue of Peak Oil, that point in time at which all known oil reserves have reached the peak of their possible production and from which time there will be a decrease in possible production. The problem is that, while it appears that this peak is in sight, demands for cheap oil are increasing exponentially, in effect bringing the problem closer to us. The results of dwindling oil production in many countries, the extreme concentration of oil production in the Middle East, and the lack of credible statistics as to the existing reserves increases political tension in that area, and would appear to largely account for current US policies in Iraq, and Chinese policies in the Sudan.
Other Documentaries some of us have seen and would like to make known can be found here:

The well-known movie of Al Gore about the impending problems arising out of global warming and climate change. It deals with the melting ice caps, the reduction of light reflected back into the cosmos by glaciers and the increased warmth reflected back to the earth’s surface through the greenhouse effect.
He demonstrates how the countries using the most energy and therefore also emitting the most CO2 into the atmosphere are the United States and Europe.
